Hyderabad Witnesses First Taste Of Formula Cars
On Saturday, Wolf Racing's GB08 Thunder race cars roared on India's first street circuit - Hyderabad Street Circuit on the banks of Hussain Sagar Lake - for the first time.
Unlike the scheduled qualifying races, only the drivers took their cars out for practice races on the first day of the Indian Racing League. This being the newly-laid track, the drivers were skeptical initially and forced the qualifying races to the morning of Sunday.
Despite this, the cars enthralled the crowd, which gathered to watch the mean machines. It was a cautious approach and the drivers didn't hit full throttle. Even though the cars are capable of reaching 250kmph, they chose to stay around 140 to 150kmph during practice races.
“The drivers first should get used to this track, and then they can feel confident. So the whole day was used as practice for the drivers. They were cautious regarding the barricades. This is the first street circuit in the country. There were a few lapses regarding crowd management and a lack of communication with them. There will be more people tomorrow (Sunday),” said Akhilesh Reddy, the chairman of Racing Promotions Pvt Ltd.
KT Rama Rao, State Minister for IT, Municipal Administration, and Urban Development flagged off the event earlier. The league is a 6-city-based franchise with 4 drives each in the team.
