The Walkman has turned 40 this year
The Walkman has now turned out to be 40 years old. In 1979, Sony had simply revolutionized the way we listen to the music by inventing the “Walkman TPS-L2”. Keeping in view the requirement for the music listener, Walkman was made in very handy which can be easily carried to different locations easily. It was the first portable music device which was easier for purchase for the whole world. Its lower cost has made it every easier for the common person to buy it according to their budget. The Sony Walkman was first launched on 2x2nd June 1979 in Tokyo.
It was initially difficult to name this particular portable device which can be accepted worldwide. A lot of time and money was going in finding the name for the device, they finally came up with “Pressman” and then swapped “Press” with “Walk” to make it “Walkman”. Even after the introduction of CD, the Walkman continued to be favorites for many of the people. Walkman is a very nice device listening device for listening to the music which is hand-sized, connected easily by the wires with the headphones for listening to the music comfortably.
Initially, marketing of the Walkman was a tougher task as Japanese product and culture were not well-known as what it is today. So Sony came up with the idea of custom music which can be played at any location you are going. This made it a personalized type of music for the people which made it easier for the people to make the purchase decision. One of the biggest things that lured audience is about listening to music privately. After the introduction of Walkman, 3,000 units were sold for the first month. However, by the end of August month, it was more than 27,000 units were sold. By 1995, 150 million Walkman units were produced and more than 300 different models are being made.
The great revolution in the music listening world was really fantastic. Walkman had really rocked the world with a wonderful trip till now making it a fabulous iconic device to remember.
