AP Chief Minister Launches Enhanced Pension Scheme for the Poor
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, fulfilled a major election promise by launching an enhanced social security pension scheme for the poor on Monday. Under the NTR Bharosa scheme, the monthly pension has been increased from Rs. 3,000 to Rs. 4,000, effective April. Beneficiaries received Rs. 7,000, which includes arrears for three months.
The Chief Minister began distributing the NTR Bharosa pensions in Penumaka village, Mangalagiri Assembly segment. He was accompanied by Nara Lokesh, the local MLA and Minister for HRD, Education, IT, and Electronics. Naidu personally handed over the pensions to Islavath Sai and her parents, Banavath Pamulyanayak and Banavath Sita, who are all daily-wage earners.
At a public meeting in Penumaka, Naidu emphasized the importance of improving people's lives. He said that this pension scheme is the first step towards raising living standards and fulfilling the promises made to the people. Naidu, serving his fourth term as Chief Minister, was inspired by the TDP founder, the late NT Rama Rao, who believed society is sacred and people are the true gods.
The Chief Minister stated his goal of creating a poverty-free society without economic imbalances. He also announced that pensions for the physically challenged would be increased to Rs. 6,000 monthly. Naidu emphasized the need to control the rising prices of essential commodities and assured that his government is committed to the welfare of the people.
Naidu addressed previous concerns that pension distribution through secretariat staff was not feasible. He stated that 1.25 lakh secretariat employees are now distributing pensions, with the help of volunteers if needed. He emphasized the government's dedication to serving the people efficiently and effectively.
