AP Opposes National Status to Telangana Kaleshwaram Project

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy's government demanded that Telangana's massive lift irrigation project Kaleshwaram shouldn't be given national status. What surprises more is that Jagan is the one who attended the inauguration of the project 5 months ago! In a statement, AP said to Supreme Court that the project which will be built by Telangana across the Godavari river affects its irrigation interests.
YSRCP government sought direction to the Centre not to accord national project status to Kaleshwaram, in its affidavit filed in the apex court. Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao had invited Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra chief ministers as the special guests for the inauguration of this Rs 80,190 crore project in June.
The Andhra Pradesh government is now against the Kaleshwaram project because of the issues in the implementation of provisions of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act.
AP Irrigation Department said that Telangana changed the scope of the original project in the name of engineering. The court said that Telangana has no right to raise objections to a merger of villages likely to be inundated by the project as this is a national project being built by Andhra Pradesh across the Godavari.
Jagan earlier cheated KCR on the issue of linking Godavari and Krishna rivers to overcome water scarcity in both the states. And now, the Kaleshwaram project is yet another thing to say that Jagan has his own plans!
