Actor Nagarjuna Warns of Rising Cyber Frauds Amid iBomma Crackdown
Amid the ongoing crackdown on the iBomma piracy network, actor Akkineni Nagarjuna issued a strong warning about the rapid rise of cyber fraud incidents, revealing that even his own family was targeted. Speaking at a press conference hosted by Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar, Nagarjuna shared that a member of his family fell victim to a dangerous “digital arrest” scam.
In this deceptive method, cybercriminals impersonate government officials and claim that the victim is facing legal action. The fraudsters then coerce the victims into isolating themselves, making payments, or sharing sensitive information — all while believing they are under official custody. Nagarjuna said the incident deeply concerned his family and highlighted the frightening sophistication of modern cybercriminals.
He applauded Hyderabad Cybercrime officials for acting promptly and urged the public to remain vigilant. He stressed the importance of reporting suspicious calls and messages immediately, and educating families about online threats.
Commissioner Sajjanar reiterated that cybercrimes are rising sharply, targeting not only the general public but also celebrities and their families. The press meet was attended by several major film personalities, including Megastar Chiranjeevi, D. Suresh Babu, and Dil Raju, who expressed support for the police’s efforts to curb online piracy and cyber fraud.
With the recent arrest of iBomma operator Immadi Ravi, authorities are broadening investigations into related cyber offences. The police also warned that digital piracy networks often link users to betting apps and phishing platforms, putting millions at risk.
Nagarjuna concluded by urging citizens to stay alert, avoid unverified websites, and report cybercrimes without fear. The incident serves as a reminder that online threats can affect anyone, regardless of status or background.
