Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan Sue YouTube Over AI Deepfake Videos

Bollywood power couple Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan have filed a lawsuit against YouTube and Google over AI-generated deepfake videos, seeking approximately Rs 4 crore in damages. The Delhi High Court recently issued a temporary order prohibiting the unauthorized use of Aishwarya’s name, image, or likeness in any form, including artificial intelligence or deepfake content.
According to court filings, the couple argued that explicit and manipulated videos circulating online were an invasion of privacy and harmed their dignity. They demanded a permanent injunction against content that misuses their voices, names, or visuals. “Such material is not only accessible to the public but could also be used in AI training, increasing future infringements,” their petition stated.
Examples cited included AI clips showing Abhishek angrily watching Aishwarya with Salman Khan and other doctored scenes. One YouTube channel, “AI Bollywood Ishq,” reportedly had over 259 such videos, amassing 16.5 million views. One controversial video alone, depicting Aishwarya and Salman in a pool, garnered 4.1 million views.
The lawsuit also highlighted the unauthorized use of their images on merchandise like mugs, posters, and signed photos. The Bachchans argued that such activities not only infringed on their personality rights but also misled fans.
The Delhi High Court has directed Google’s legal team to submit a written response. The next hearing is scheduled for January 15, 2026. Legal experts say the case could set an important precedent for celebrity rights in the era of AI and deepfakes, particularly as misuse of digital likenesses becomes a growing global concern.
