American political scientist: BJP Expected to Win 305 Seats in 2024 Lok Sabha Election
American political scientist and risk consultant Ian Bremmer predicts that the BJP will win 305 seats (±10) in the 2024 Lok Sabha election. In an exclusive interview with NDTV Profit, Bremmer, founder of the Eurasia Group, it is stated that the Indian general election appears stable compared to other global political events, such as the upcoming US election.
Bremmer highlighted significant global uncertainties affecting the market, including geopolitical tensions, US-China relations, and the US election. Amid these issues, he noted that India's election stands out as stable and consistent.
According to Bremmer, Eurasia Group's research suggests the BJP will secure between 295 and 315 seats. The BJP, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, won 282 seats in 2014 and 303 seats in 2019, aiming for a third consecutive term in 2024. Political analysts believe the opposition, led by the Congress and the INDIA bloc, faces a challenging task in weakening the BJP's strong voter base in the Hindi heartland.
Bremmer emphasized his interest in the stability of India's political system rather than the exact numbers. He praised India's "free, fair, and transparent" electoral process and predicted Modi's likely victory due to strong economic performance and reforms, which provide a stabilizing influence.
Regarding India's economic future, Bremmer noted that the country has historically underperformed but is now showing significant growth. He expects India to become the world's fourth-largest economy next year and the third-largest by 2028. He also highlighted India's increasing global influence and strong intellectual capital.
