Andhra Pradesh Aims for World-Class Education by 2029 with LEAP Initiative
Andhra Pradesh is on track to build a world-class education system by 2029 through major reforms, announced Minister for Education, IT, and Electronics Nara Lokesh at the International Education Roundtable held in Melbourne, Australia. Organized by the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade), the event brought together representatives from Study Melbourne, Victorian education departments, and top skill institutions.
During his address, Minister Lokesh outlined the state’s ambitious vision to equip students with future-ready skills. He introduced the Learning Excellence in Andhra Pradesh (LEAP) initiative, a comprehensive program launched earlier this year to transform student learning outcomes and modernize the education ecosystem. The LEAP program focuses on holistic development through international teaching practices, technology integration, and innovative learning models.
Lokesh explained that LEAP emphasizes AI-driven learning solutions, game-based education, and Foundation Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) programs to ensure strong academic foundations. The initiative also focuses on technical, leadership, and life skills, ensuring students are ready to compete globally. Aligning with India’s National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the curriculum under LEAP promotes digital education, moral values, and 21st-century skills.
Representatives from Study Melbourne highlighted that Victoria hosts over 175,000 international students from 170 countries annually, including many from India. These students contribute around $12.6 billion to Victoria’s economy each year. Melbourne remains a top global education hub, known for its research excellence, post-study opportunities, and multicultural environment.
The roundtable saw participation from leading universities such as the University of Melbourne, Monash University, Swinburne University of Technology, and RMIT University. Minister Lokesh emphasized that Andhra Pradesh, through LEAP, aims to replicate global best practices and create a future-ready education ecosystem that nurtures innovation, ethics, and excellence among its students.
