Andhra Pradesh Aims to Double Airport Count as CM Naidu Pushes for Aviation Sector Expansion
Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu met with Union Civil Aviation Minister K Ram Mohan Naidu in Delhi on Saturday to discuss the expansion of the aviation sector in Andhra Pradesh.
Following the meeting, the Union Civil Aviation Minister highlighted the Chief Minister's commitment to increasing the number of airports in the state from the current seven to 14. "Establishing these airports will require vast amounts of land, potentially spanning hundreds or thousands of acres. The Aviation Ministry is prepared to study the feasibility and proceed with establishing these airports if the necessary land is provided," the minister stated.
The Chief Minister, known for his forward-thinking approach, emphasized the importance of setting up additional airports and improving connectivity between key cities, foreseeing future challenges in land and resource availability. The Union Minister also noted that they discussed the benefits Andhra Pradesh would reap from expanding its aviation infrastructure. Additionally, the Chief Minister stressed the need to accelerate terminal expansion at several airports, including those in Vijayawada, Rajahmundry, and Kadapa, where ongoing work is already in progress.
