Andhra Pradesh Allocates Additional Land for AIIMS Mangalagiri Expansion
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu announced the allocation of an additional 10 acres of land for the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Mangalagiri, paving the way for its transformation into a premier healthcare and research hub. The expanded campus will feature collaborations like Medtronics with IITs, a Research Block, and a School of Public Health.
Speaking at the institution’s first convocation ceremony on Tuesday, Naidu affirmed his commitment to pursuing AIIMS management’s request for additional land in Kolanukonda village. He reiterated the coalition government’s dedication to nurturing AIIMS into a globally recognized institution.
Highlighting the impact of technology on healthcare, Naidu described the evolution of medical science into “Medtech Science,” emphasizing its potential to deliver advanced patient care remotely. He urged medical students to embrace emerging technologies like Deep Tech, envisioning a future where hospitals are visited only when absolutely necessary.
Praising President Droupadi Murmu as a role model, Naidu applauded her inspiring journey from humble beginnings to the nation’s highest office. “Her life is proof that with hard work and determination, nothing is impossible,” he stated.
The Chief Minister outlined his vision for AIIMS Mangalagiri to become a top-ranked institution and positioned Amaravati as the “future city of India” and a hub for world-class healthcare. He credited the State government for providing essential infrastructure, including approach roads, power, water supply, and highway connectivity for the institution. Lauding the affordable healthcare services offered at just Rs 10, he expressed confidence in AIIMS Mangalagiri, currently ranked eighth among 20 operational AIIMS, securing the top spot in the future.
Naidu also echoed AIIMS Director Dr. Madhabananda Kar’s focus on integrating technical expertise with medical education, envisioning a leading role for the institution in research, patient care, and innovation. Reflecting on his tour of the campus, Naidu humorously remarked that he wished he could study at AIIMS Mangalagiri but noted it was no longer possible for him.
The Chief Minister extended gratitude to the Union government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for establishing 11 national institutions in Andhra Pradesh after bifurcation. He credited former Union Health Minister JP Nadda for laying AIIMS’ foundation stone and expressed optimism for further development under Union Health Minister of State Prataprao Jadhav.
Naidu also shared plans to invest Rs 53,000 crore over the next three years to develop Amaravati into a world-class capital. He acknowledged the contributions of IT Minister and Mangalagiri MLA Nara Lokesh in supporting AIIMS’ growth.
The convocation ceremony was attended by Andhra Pradesh Governor S Abdul Nazeer, Ministers N Lokesh and Y Satya Kumar Yadav, along with other dignitaries.
