Andhra Pradesh CM Naidu Promises ₹25,000 Per Hectare Compensation for Flood-Affected Farmers
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu visited Eluru district on Wednesday to inspect flood-hit areas and assess the damage caused by recent floods. Addressing victims at Sir C.R. Reddy Degree College after an aerial survey, he assured that the government would compensate affected farmers transparently and with full accountability.
Naidu emphasized that every flood victim would receive justice, stating that the ex gratia for crop loss had been increased to ₹25,000 per hectare. He compared this to the previous YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) government's minimal increase of ₹1,000 per hectare over the earlier ex gratia of ₹16,000 provided during his previous tenure.
Acknowledging that 70% of the cultivators were tenant farmers, Naidu announced that input subsidies would be directly credited to their bank accounts. He also committed to compensating all flood victims by September 17.
During his speech, Naidu criticized the YSRCP government for its mismanagement, which he claimed contributed to the extent of the flood damage. He reaffirmed his commitment to resuming the Polavaram project, a major infrastructure initiative, and revealed that he had secured ₹12,000 crore from the central government for its construction. Additionally, he announced the approval of ₹15 crore for a new bridge near the Sanivarapupeta causeway in Eluru.
Ministers Nimmala Ramanaidu and Kolusu Parthasarathy, along with Eluru MP Putta Mahesh Kumar and other local leaders, accompanied the Chief Minister during his visit.
