Andhra Pradesh Government Forms SIT to Investigate Tirupati Laddu Ghee Adulteration Claims

The Andhra Pradesh government has established a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe allegations of ghee adulteration in the preparation of the famed Tirupati Devasthanam's prasadam laddus. This move follows an announcement by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, responding to concerns about the quality of ghee, with some accusations suggesting the inclusion of animal fat.
Speaking from his residence in Undavalli, Chief Minister Naidu stressed the need for a comprehensive investigation to address these serious claims. He also mentioned that the SIT would be led by an IG-level officer or higher, with the primary objective of investigating any potential misuse of power and ensuring such incidents are prevented in the future. “The government will take strict measures to prevent the recurrence of such issues,” he affirmed.
The SIT, headed by Guntur Range IG Sarvashrestha Tripathi (IPS), includes DIG Gopinadha Jetty and SP Harshavardhana Raju. Their mandate is to thoroughly examine the quality of ghee used in Tirumala's renowned laddu prasadam and hold any wrongdoers accountable.
However, opposition leader Ambati Rambabu from the YSR Congress Party has voiced criticism of the SIT probe, deeming it insufficient. He has called for a Supreme Court-monitored investigation instead, claiming that a DIG or IG-led inquiry is inadequate. "The chief minister’s decision is laughable. A SIT probe is not enough; the matter should be investigated under the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court," Rambabu remarked at a press conference.
