Andhra Pradesh Government Plans International Golf Course in Amaravati to Boost Sports Landscape
In an initiative to expand Andhra Pradesh's sporting infrastructure, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu recently met with cricket legend Kapil Dev, Chairman of the Professional Golf Tour of India. During their discussion, held in Amaravati on Tuesday, they explored plans to establish an international golf course club in Amaravati and premier golf facilities in Anantapur and Visakhapatnam (Vizag).
Sharing the details of the meeting on X, the Chief Minister expressed his enthusiasm for enhancing the sports scene in Andhra Pradesh. "It was a pleasure to meet our legendary cricketer and Chairman of the Professional Golf Tour of India, Mr. Kapil Dev, and his delegation today. We discussed expanding the sports landscape of Andhra Pradesh, with a special emphasis on establishing an international golf course club in Amaravati and premier golf course clubs in Anantapur and Vizag,” Naidu stated.
He highlighted that the government is committed to fostering a passion for golf among Andhra Pradesh's youth and encouraging the growth of the next generation of golfers. “The GoAP is committed to creating more such opportunities and facilities for our citizens across the state. We look forward to collaborating with sports icons to make Andhra Pradesh a true hub for sporting excellence,” he added.
On his arrival in Vijayawada, Kapil Dev was warmly welcomed by Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sivanath, also President of the Andhra Cricket Association, along with Thiruvuru MLA K. Srinivasa Rao.
Supporting the initiative, Transport, Youth, and Sports Minister Mandipalli Ramprasad Reddy emphasized the government’s vision to develop Andhra Pradesh as a major sports hub within the next five years. His department is currently developing a Detailed Project Report (DPR) to map the necessary infrastructure at local, district, and Assembly constituency levels, aiming to provide sports opportunities across the state.
Reddy also mentioned the possibility of creating an IPL team under the "Amaravati" brand to further elevate the state’s profile in the sporting world. He recently held a review meeting with the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP) to discuss the strategic steps ahead.
