Andhra Pradesh Government Transfers Probe into 2021 TDP Headquarters Attack to CID
The Andhra Pradesh government has handed over the investigation into the 2021 attacks on the TDP's headquarters and the residence of N. Chandrababu Naidu, then the opposition leader, to the Crime Investigation Department (CID). The assaults were allegedly carried out by members of the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), led by Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy at the time.
The case transfer follows concerns within Naidu's administration regarding delays in the ongoing local police investigation. Sources suggest the probe had been sluggish, prompting the move to CID, which is set to take over the investigation on Monday formally.
The attack on the TDP headquarters on October 19, 2021, reportedly involved several prominent YSRCP leaders and their supporters. Among those arrested was former YSRCP MP Nandigam Suresh, who was later released on bail. The police plan to interrogate other key figures involved in the incident.
The same day, Naidu's residence was also targeted. Former YSRCP minister Jogi Ramesh was named the prime suspect but failed to cooperate despite repeated summonses for questioning. His non-cooperation has significantly influenced the decision to shift the case to the CID.
