Andhra Pradesh Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Key Highlights and Contenders
The Election Commission of India has officially announced the schedule for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, with Andhra Pradesh gearing up for polls on May 13th. Unlike previous elections, this year's elections in the coastal state will be conducted in a single phase, covering all 25 constituencies.
In the previous general elections of 2019, the YSRCP emerged victorious, securing 22 out of the 25 Lok Sabha seats, while the remaining three were claimed by Chandrababu Naidu's TDP.
Adding a new dynamic to the electoral landscape, the Jana Sena Party has formed an alliance with the BJP and the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) for the Andhra Pradesh elections. According to the seat-sharing agreement, the BJP will contest in six constituencies, while the TDP will field candidates in the remaining 17.
The TDP recently released its second list of candidates, including prominent figures like former minister Gorantla Buchaiah Chowdary, Chintamaneni Prabhakar, Pulivarthi Nani, Challa Ramachandra Reddy, and Vemireddy Prashanti. Notably, Vemireddy Prashanti, along with her husband Rajya Sabha member Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy, defected from the YSR Congress party and secured the TDP ticket for the Kovvur assembly constituency.
