Andhra Pradesh to Get ₹60,000 Crore Oil Refinery and Petrochemical Hub at Ramayapatnam
Andhra Pradesh is set to witness a major industrial boost as Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) plans to establish an oil refinery and petrochemical hub in Ramayapatnam, Nellore district, with an investment of ₹60,000 crore. This development fulfills a key promise made during the state’s bifurcation in 2014, marking a significant milestone for Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s leadership.
The state government had offered BPCL three potential sites—Srikakulam, Machilipatnam, and Ramayapatnam—for the project. After detailed feasibility studies, Ramayapatnam emerged as the most suitable location due to its strategic access to a captive jetty at Ramayapatnam port.
The official announcement is expected soon, likely coinciding with the foundation stone ceremony for NTPC’s green hydrogen hub at Pudimadaka near Visakhapatnam. Naidu has reportedly invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend the ceremony, signaling a new chapter of industrial progress for the state.
This ambitious project strengthens Naidu’s political standing as the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) continues to play a pivotal role in the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). It also showcases Naidu’s ability to deliver on a decade-old pledge included in the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014, which mandated a greenfield crude oil refinery and petrochemical complex in the state.
BPCL has yet to release an official statement, and the state’s industries minister, TG Bharath, has declined to comment. However, the project's progress underscores Andhra Pradesh's growing potential as a hub for large-scale industrial investments.
