Andhra Pradesh to Rebuild Homes for Flood Victims, Offer Aid for Damaged Vehicles
The Andhra Pradesh government has announced plans to rebuild houses for flood victims who lost their homes due to recent heavy rains and flooding. The floods, caused by torrential downpours and the overflowing Budameru rivulet, affected seven districts, including Vijayawada. The deluge was the result of a depression in the Bay of Bengal, causing widespread damage.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu reviewed the situation and has committed to providing compensation to flood victims, not just for destroyed homes but also for damaged vehicles. The government is assessing the extent of the damage and plans to offer aid to those who lost household appliances and other belongings in the flood.
As per early estimates, over 2.13 lakh houses were flooded, and 84,505 homes have already been assessed for damage. Thousands of cars, motorcycles, and autorickshaws were also impacted. Additionally, crops spanning more than 2.14 lakh hectares were destroyed. The government aims to finalize its compensation strategy soon, with aid possibly being distributed by September 17, once the damage assessment is complete.
