Anna Canteens To Be Rebranded!

Anna Canteens were launched by Telugu Desam Government earlier this year. Meals, at rupees five, were provided in these canteens. The TDP Government brought the concept of anna canteen in its 2014 manifesto, but they implemented it at the end of the term in 2019, just before general and assembly elections.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy is of the opinion that any scheme that reminds people of the previous government should be discontinued. This raised suspicions that the anna canteens would be shut down by YCP government.
After arguments between TDP and YCP party members in the assembly session, urban development minister clarified that anna canteens would not be shut down by the State Government, however, their color would be changed. The TDP government painted the canteens yellow for political propaganda and earning publicity.
“TDP government spent Rs. 20 lakhs per day to provide food at subsidized rates, as opposed to TRS government which spends only 1.5 lakhs per day”, MLA from Mangalagiri, Alla Ramakrishna Reddy, claimed. He accused the TDP government of wasting money of taxpayers. If reports are to be believed, the current government will be relaunching anna canteens, the question is what name will they give it – YCP canteens or YSR canteens?
