BCCI Introduces Prize Money for Top Performers in Women's and Junior Cricket Tournaments
BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has announced a significant development in Indian domestic cricket, unveiling that the board will now reward the Player of the Match and Player of the Tournament in women’s and junior cricket competitions. This initiative marks a major shift from the previous system, where such rewards were only given in senior men's tournaments.
In addition to these new rewards, Shah also revealed that the Player of the Match award will be introduced for every game in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, further recognizing top performances in senior men's domestic cricket.
Taking to X earlier today, Shah shared, "We are introducing prize money for the Player of the Match and Player of the Tournament in all Women’s and Junior Cricket tournaments under our Domestic Cricket Programme." He emphasized that this move aims to acknowledge and reward exceptional performances at all levels of domestic cricket. Shah also expressed his gratitude to the Apex Council for their support in implementing these changes.
In his tweet, Shah highlighted that the introduction of prize money in every game will create a more motivating environment for players, offering them better financial incentives through domestic tournaments. Over the past few months, Shah has placed significant emphasis on domestic cricket, even encouraging regular international players to participate in domestic matches during the off-season. This commitment will be evident in the upcoming Duleep Trophy, where several capped Indian cricketers are expected to participate.
