BJP Receives Over 52 Lakh Calls In Support Of CAA

A toll-free number has been launched by the BJP as a part of its campaign to mobilize nationwide support for the CAA. People were asked to give missed calls to extend their support to the newly enacted legislation. Union Home Minister Amit Shah said, that 52.72 lakh missed calls were received by the BJP from people who have extended their support to the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, till 8 PM on Monday.

Amit Shah on Sunday led the party's door-to-door 10-day campaign to spread awareness about the act with top party leaders, and reached out to people across the country, amidst protests against the law since it was passed in December 2019. He also visited the homes of the people in Lajpat Nagar and explained to them the benefits of the Act. He also distributed pamphlets related to the subject and asked them to read it to understand the Act.

The CAA was passed in Lok Sabha on December 9 and in Rajya Sabha on 11 December. After the bill passed, the protests began and turned violent in no time. The protests initially began in Assam, Uttar Pradesh, and have taken place in Mumbai, Chennai, and Hyderabad. Congress worker and social activist Sadaf Jafar and former IPS officer SR Darapuri, who were arrested earlier following anti CAA protests, were released now. Besides them, 10 other anti-CAA protesters, too, were granted bail by the court.
