BJP Weighs Alliance with TDP and Jana Sena for Andhra Pradesh Elections
In a significant political development, the BJP's central leadership in New Delhi is contemplating an alliance with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Jana Sena for the upcoming elections in Andhra Pradesh. About 90% of the state's BJP leaders, including State President D. Purandeswari, have submitted a report to the party's high command outlining the potential advantages of such an alliance.
Given the BJP's relatively weaker foothold in Andhra Pradesh, this alliance could prove beneficial by potentially securing at least two Lok Sabha seats and a few Assembly seats. However, the BJP's interest extends beyond immediate gains. With aspirations of returning to power at the national level, the party aims to weaken the I.N.D.I.A bloc. They have already garnered support from Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, a key figure in the I.N.D.I.A bloc.
The BJP's eagerness to strengthen the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) amid growing disarray within the I.N.D.I.A bloc has led them to consider re-admitting former allies like the TDP. The BJP believes it's crucial to unseat the ruling YSRCP in Andhra Pradesh. If the alliance with TDP-Jana Sena materializes, it would also facilitate smoother election management.
In a post-election scenario, TDP-Jana Sena, as part of the NDA, could potentially secure positions in the Union Cabinet. Central support is imperative for these parties to revive the state's economy, develop the capital city of Amaravati, and attract industries. The BJP high command is expected to make a final decision in the coming days and engage in discussions with Chandrababu Naidu and Pawan Kalyan.
