BJP and Congress Neck-and-Neck in Telangana: Each Leading in 8 Seats
In the latest update from the May 13 Lok Sabha polls, both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress are showing strong performances in Telangana, each leading in eight of the state's 17 Lok Sabha constituencies. The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president, Asaduddin Owaisi, maintains a significant lead of over 70,000 votes against his BJP competitor, K. Madhavi Latha.
The constituencies where the BJP candidates are leading include Adilabad, Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Medak, Secunderabad, Malkajgiri, Chevella, and Mahabubnagar. On the other hand, the Congress is ahead in Peddapalle (SC), Mahabubabad (ST), Warangal (SC), Bhongir, Khammam, Nalgonda, Nagarkurnool (SC), and Zaheerabad.
The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), led by K. Chandrasekhar Rao, seems to be the major loser in this election, failing to lead in any constituency. This is a significant setback for the party, which had secured nine seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and had also faced defeat in the Legislative Assembly elections held in November last year.
The 2019 general elections saw the BJP winning four seats and the Congress three in Telangana. Vote counting began at 8 AM on May 13, following a single-phase polling.
