BRS Alleges Illegal Detention of Party Leaders Ahead of Jubilee Hills Bypoll
Tensions escalated in Hyderabad on Thursday after Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leaders accused the Congress-led Telangana government of misusing police powers to suppress their campaign ahead of the crucial Jubilee Hills by-election. Several BRS workers, including a leader named Arun, were allegedly detained without formal charges by Madhuranagar police.
The incident sparked outrage among BRS cadres, who claimed that the detentions were politically motivated and aimed at stifling opposition activity. Senior leaders including MLC T. Ravinder Rao, Hanamkonda district president Dasyam Vinay Bhaskar, former MLA Korukanti Chander, and Legal Cell advisor Srikanth rushed to the police station to demand the release of the detained members.
After securing their release, BRS leaders condemned what they described as “illegal arrests” carried out under pressure from the Congress government. They alleged that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s administration was resorting to intimidation tactics due to fear of losing the bypoll.
Addressing reporters, BRS leaders demanded strict action against officials responsible for what they called a “blatant misuse of law enforcement.” They also accused the ruling party of deliberately obstructing their campaign activities and harassing local workers.
Party members later staged a protest near the police station, asserting that such undemocratic acts undermine fair electoral practices. The incident has added a fresh layer of tension to an already heated Jubilee Hills by-election, which is being closely watched as a key political battleground between Congress and BRS in Hyderabad.
