BRS Alleges India’s Biggest Ever Land Scam in Telangana
The political atmosphere in Telangana has heated up after the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) accused the ruling Congress government of orchestrating what it calls the largest land scam in India’s history, estimated at nearly ₹5 lakh crore. Addressing the media at Telangana Bhavan, BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao (KTR) launched a strong attack on Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, alleging that the government illegally undervalued and converted approximately 9,292 acres of prime industrial land in and around Hyderabad for private real estate gains.
KTR claimed that this massive scam was designed to benefit not just political allies but also CM Revanth Reddy’s close associates, relatives, and brokers. He warned that anyone purchasing such lands would face future legal action once investigations progress. KTR contrasted these allegations with the BRS’s decade-long governance, asserting that during their tenure land was allotted transparently at concessional rates solely to promote industrial growth and attract investment without favoritism.
The controversy centers on the recently announced Hyderabad Industrial Land Transformation Policy (HILTP), which KTR alleges allows industrial property to be converted into high-value commercial assets within just 45 days. Under this new policy, land buyers are allowed to regularize properties by paying only 30% of the government registration value, whereas the previous BRS government demanded 100% to 200% of the standard rate for any conversion.
He accused the Congress government of initiating these changes to enable what he calls the “RR Tax — Revanth and Rahul Tax”, claiming the Chief Minister aims to accumulate ₹40,000–₹50,000 crore personally. BRS leaders have vowed to fight aggressively against the alleged scam and protect Telangana’s public assets, warning that decades of industrial development risk being replaced by profit-driven real estate expansion.
