BRS Criticizes Revanth Reddy Government Over Loan Waiver Discrepancies
BRS Working President KT Rama Rao accused the Revanth Reddy government of deceiving Telangana farmers regarding the loan waiver scheme. On Thursday, Rao claimed that the Rs 7,000 crore allocated for Rythu Bandhu funds, scheduled for disbursement in June, had been redirected to support the loan waiver initiative.
Rao took to social media to express his concerns, highlighting discrepancies in the current loan waiver program. He questioned why only 11 lakh farmers out of the 40 lakh who had taken loans of Rs 1 lakh each were selected for the waiver. Rao contrasted this with the KCR government's previous loan waiver schemes, noting that in 2014 and 2018, the waivers covered a larger number of farmers. Specifically, the KCR government had waived loans totaling Rs 16,144 crore in 2014, benefiting around 35 lakh farmers, and Rs 19,198 crore in 2018, aiding approximately 37 lakh farmers.
Rao demanded that the current government fulfill its promise from the Congress Manifesto by waiving all crop loans up to Rs 2 lakh and ensuring that the Rythu Bandhu funds are distributed to all eligible farmers.
