BRS MLA Demands Immediate Arrest of Bandi Bhageerath in POCSO Case
BRS MLA and former minister Vemula Prashant Reddy has demanded the immediate arrest of Bandi Bhageerath, son of Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar, in connection with a controversial POCSO case. Speaking to the media in Nizamabad, Prashant Reddy accused the police of delaying action and alleged political interference in the investigation.
According to the MLA, the complaint involved serious allegations of rape of a minor after administering drugs and alcohol. He claimed that despite the gravity of the accusations, police delayed registering the case for nearly three months and acted only after public protests and pressure from the BRS party.
Prashant Reddy also criticised the filing of a counter honey-trap case against the victim. Referring to provisions under the POCSO Act, he argued that the statement of a minor should be treated with utmost seriousness and questioned how a minor girl could be accused of running a honey trap operation.
The BRS leader alleged that the filing of counter-cases suggested political understanding between the ruling Congress government in Telangana and BJP leaders. He claimed that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Bandi Sanjay shared close political and business interests, which explained the government’s silence on the issue.
He further demanded that Bandi Sanjay take moral responsibility for the allegations involving his son and resign from his ministerial post. Prashant Reddy accused the BJP leader of frequently targeting BRS leaders and members of former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s family on personal matters while remaining silent in this case.
The controversy has intensified political tensions in Telangana, with opposition parties demanding a transparent and impartial investigation while calling for protection and justice for the minor victim and her family.
