‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ Resonates in Muscat as PM Modi Arrives in Oman, Receives Grand Diaspora Welcome
Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Muscat, Oman, on Wednesday to a warm and ceremonial reception, marking the third and final leg of his three-nation diplomatic tour. The visit, scheduled from December 17 to 18, is being undertaken at the invitation of Sultan Haitham bin Tarik and marks PM Modi’s second official visit to the Gulf nation. At the airport, he was received by Oman’s Deputy Prime Minister for Defence Affairs, Sayyid Shihab bin Tarik Al Said, reflecting the significance attached to the visit by the Omani leadership.
The Prime Minister’s arrival was greeted with loud chants of “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and “Vande Mataram” as members of the Indian diaspora gathered in large numbers to welcome him. The enthusiastic reception highlighted the strong emotional connect between overseas Indians and their homeland, transforming the arrival into a moment of celebration and pride.
The festivities continued at PM Modi’s hotel, where the Indian community organised a colourful cultural welcome. Children dressed in traditional attire performed a Rajasthani Ghoomar dance, adding cultural vibrancy to the occasion. Several videos shared online showed members of the diaspora waving Indian flags, chanting the Prime Minister’s name and expressing happiness over his visit. PM Modi warmly interacted with the community, acknowledging their contributions to Oman’s development and their role in strengthening bilateral ties.
Soon after, the Prime Minister began his official engagements with a meeting with Sayyid Shihab bin Tarik Al Said. The discussions are expected to set the tone for broader deliberations on bilateral cooperation, regional security and strategic partnerships. PM Modi also attended a formal banquet hosted in his honour by the Omani leadership.
The visit holds special importance as India and Oman share a comprehensive strategic partnership built on centuries-old historical links, strong trade relations and deep people-to-people ties. This year also marks the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, making the visit particularly meaningful.
