Biden Bows Out, Endorses Kamala Harris at DNC-says she will be 'historic President'; Calls Trump a 'Loser'
The Democratic National Convention (DNC) kicked off on Monday (Tuesday morning in India) with President Joe Biden delivering a significant speech endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic candidate for the upcoming U.S. presidential election. Biden, who has decided not to seek reelection, took center stage on the opening night, receiving an extended standing ovation from party supporters.
In his address, Biden touched on various pressing issues, including the Gaza conflict and his decision to step aside for Harris. "I gave my best to you for 50 years... But I hope you know how grateful I am to all of you," Biden said during his emotional farewell. He emphasized his love for the country: "We need to preserve our democracy. Above all, we need you to beat Donald Trump."
Kamala Harris, who appeared surprised at the event, praised Biden's "historic leadership" and vowed to defeat Trump in the upcoming election. "Let us fight for the ideals we hold dear... when we fight, we win!" she declared to an enthusiastic crowd.
Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton also spoke at the convention, criticizing Trump while endorsing Harris. Clinton emphasized the importance of progress and praised Harris for her character, experience, and vision.
First Lady Jill Biden reflected on the President's decision to step down, expressing confidence in Harris and her running mate, Tim Walz. "You are inspiring a new generation," Jill Biden said, rallying support for the Democratic ticket.
Harris is set to formally accept the Democratic nomination on Thursday, as the DNC continues to strongly support her candidacy and unifiedly focus on defeating Donald Trump.
