Biopic On legendary weightlifter In Tollywood

Biopics on inspiriting celebrities and sports legends are gaining popularity in Indian cinema these days. We have already seen biopics on legendary sportspeople like MS. Dhoni, Milkha Singh, Mary Kom, Sachin Tendulkar, Mohammad Azharuddin, etc. Now, for the first time in Tollywood, a biopic on a legendary weightlifter will start rolling soon.

She is none other than India’s first woman to win a medal in weightlifting at the Olympics and our pride, Karanam Malleswari. She has won a bronze medal in the Olympics, in Sydney 2000 for lifting 110 kg in the snatch and 130 kg in the clean and jerk divisions for 240 kg.

Along with many international and national medals, in 1999, she was also awarded the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, in 1994, Arjuna Award, and Padma Shri in 1999. Karanam is from Amadalavalasa, Srikakulam, she had overcome many hardships to become a successful sportswoman.

Sanjana Reddy, who made her debut as a director with the Rajugadu film, in which Raj Tarun was seen in the lead role, will be helming this movie. Interestingly, both Malleswari and Sanjana are from the same district, Srikakulam.

The movie is likely to be officially declared on International Women’s Day on March 8th. The biopic will jointly be bankrolled by Kona Venkat and MVV. Satyanarayana and will be made in Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi languages, planning to release next year. It is also heard that a leading Bollywood production house will release it in Bollywood.
