Businesses in the US Have Asked Government Officials To Boost H-1B Visas.
Migrant workers in the United States are understandably anxious in the face of the prolonged recession and layoffs. Good news now comes from IT Serve, an organization representing American businesses with fewer than 500 employees. They have petitioned the government to expand the H-1B visa cap.
The association's member companies number in the thousands, and they've asked the government to increase the annual allotment of H-1B visas from 65,000 to 160,000.
The primary argument is that increasing the H-1B quota will help alleviate the skills gap in the United States. They are currently advocating for an H-1B cap of 1,30,000.
The request to increase the H-1B quota is likely to be received favorably by the Indian labor force, which is employed by the bulk of the association's member companies. The H-1B visa program, the group stated, would allow them to hire more talented workers and increase their $12 billion contribution to the US economy.
