CM Chandrababu Naidu Visits Singapore’s Elite Sports School

During his ongoing tour of Singapore, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu visited the renowned Singapore Sports School on the second day of his visit. Accompanied by Olympian Pullela Gopichand, ministers, and state officials, the CM aimed to understand how the institution operates and nurtures young athletic talent.
The delegation had earlier toured the Bidadari Housing Project and then proceeded to the sports school. During the visit, the principal briefed CM Naidu and the team about the school’s non-commercial, athlete-focused approach. He emphasized that the school is not a tourist attraction but a dedicated facility to develop world-class athletes.
The principal explained the school’s strict performance-based system, where students are selected around the age of 12 based on their interest and aptitude in sports. These students are provided with professional training, academic support, and mentorship from national-level coaches. Funding comes from both the sports and education ministries of the Singapore government.
CM Naidu was also informed that similar high-performance models are being successfully implemented in Qatar, using advanced techniques to train athletes for international competitions.
This visit could serve as a learning experience for Andhra Pradesh as it explores ways to integrate global best practices into local sports development programs. The Chief Minister's vision includes building world-class sports infrastructure and institutions in the state, making such interactions a key step toward that goal.
