CM Naidu Emphasizes Potti Sriramulu’s Sacrifice, Proposes December 15 as Special Day of Tribute
As YSRC leaders criticized the NDA government for not marking November 1 as Andhra Pradesh State Formation Day, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu shed light on the varied milestones in the state's journey, emphasizing that Andhra’s formation story spans several significant dates.
Speaking at a public event in Srikakulam district, where he inaugurated a free LPG cylinder distribution program, Naidu reaffirmed his government’s commitment to honoring Potti Sriramulu, whose ultimate sacrifice paved the way for Andhra State’s creation.
Naidu recounted Sriramulu’s pivotal fast-unto-death, initiated on October 19, 1952, and lasting 58 days until he passed on December 15. Sriramulu’s sacrifice ignited public sentiment, culminating in Andhra State’s establishment on October 1, 1953.
Highlighting that Andhra Pradesh officially took shape on November 1, 1956, through the merger of Andhra State with Telangana, and that the state separated from Telangana on June 2, 2014, Naidu underscored that each date represents a distinct chapter in Andhra’s evolution.
"We have reflected on this extensively in the recent Cabinet meeting," Naidu said. "In honor of Potti Sriramulu’s sacrifice, we have decided to observe December 15 as a special day, a tribute to Amarajeevi.”
