CM Naidu Rules Out Early Polls, Counters Jagan Reddy’s 2027 ONOE Proposal
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu dismissed former CM Jagan Mohan Reddy's call for simultaneous elections under the "One Nation, One Election" (ONOE) framework in 2027. On Saturday, Naidu firmly ruled out the possibility of early polls, stating that delimitation and census requirements make such elections feasible only after 2029.
"ONOE will not bring any significant change for Andhra Pradesh, as we have conducted simultaneous elections here since 2004," Naidu said. Despite this, he reaffirmed the TDP's support for the concept of ONOE in principle.
Responding to Jagan Reddy’s directive for YSRCP cadres to prepare for polls in 2027, Naidu criticized the move, alleging it reflects desperation within the party after its recent electoral defeat. "The YSRCP leadership is clinging to wishful thinking to stay relevant," he remarked.
TDP insiders revealed that the state government is focused on completing crucial projects, including Polavaram and Amaravati, before the next elections. The signals suggest a reluctance to advance polls, reinforcing Andhra's stance to prioritize development over premature electoral engagements.
