Chandrababu Naidu Criticizes YSRCP's Governance; Pledges Development for Andhra Pradesh
Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu expressed concerns over the lack of a capital city for Andhra Pradesh even a decade after the state's bifurcation in 2014. Speaking in the Assembly on Tuesday during a discussion on the motion of thanks to the Governor’s speech, Mr. Naidu blamed former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s administration for causing significant harm to the state through misrule and policy reversals.
Mr. Naidu asserted that with the support of all Ministers, MLAs, and the people, Andhra Pradesh could still emerge as a leading state in the country. He criticized the neglect of both the Amaravati capital project and the Polavaram irrigation project over the past five years, attributing delays to intentional changes in contractors by the previous administration.
Expressing gratitude to the Central government, Mr. Naidu acknowledged the support for the Polavaram and Amaravati projects in the Union Budget announced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. He highlighted the poor state of the irrigation system due to lack of maintenance.
“State-sponsored revenge politics by Mr. Jagan have led to a decline in investments over the last five years,” Mr. Naidu alleged. He also lamented the increase in crime rates under the YSRCP regime and accused its president of avoiding the Assembly by staging a protest in Delhi out of fear.
Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan praised Governor Syed Abdul Nazeer’s address, which he said provided a roadmap for the state’s development and welfare. He emphasized that Mr. Naidu’s efforts to build Amaravati and develop the state between 2014 and 2019 would now gain new momentum.
Mr. Kalyan criticized the YSRCP’s governance, claiming that the NDA government had inherited "hereditary challenges" due to bad governance, marked by corruption, illegal mining, land grabbing, and political vendetta. He pledged to perform his duties responsibly under Mr. Naidu’s guidance and called for accountability among leaders.
BJP MLA Sujana Chowdary and others also participated in the debate.
