Chandrababu Naidu Set to Take Oath as Andhra Pradesh CM on June 9
N. Chandrababu Naidu, President of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), is slated to be sworn in as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh on June 9, following a decisive victory in the Assembly elections. The TDP-led alliance is heading towards a landslide victory, leading in 158 out of 175 Assembly constituencies.
At 74, Naidu is preparing to take the chief ministerial oath for the fourth time, having previously served as the Chief Minister of united Andhra Pradesh from 1995 to 2004, and then as the first Chief Minister of the residuary state of Andhra Pradesh post-bifurcation in 2014. After a crushing defeat by the YSR Congress Party in 2019, Naidu has made a strong comeback, buoyed by an anti-establishment sentiment and strategic alliances.
His partnership with actor-politician Pawan Kalyan’s Jana Sena Party (JSP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has proved to be pivotal. The TDP alone is leading in 131 Assembly segments, ensuring a substantial majority. Naidu himself is leading in the Kuppam constituency, which he has represented since 1989. His son, Nara Lokesh, is also ahead in the Mangalagiri constituency, a significant victory after his previous defeat.
In the Lok Sabha elections, the TDP is leading in 16 out of 25 constituencies, with the tripartite alliance ahead in 21 seats. This marks a dramatic turnaround from 2019 when the TDP won only 23 Assembly seats and three Lok Sabha seats.
