Chief Minister Reddy Faces Opposition Fire in Spirited Assembly Debate
In a lively session marking the first discussion on the motion of thanks to the Governor's joint address, tensions flared in the Assembly as the Congress party assumed power. Heated arguments ensued between the opposition and ruling party members, with the main opposition BRS, led by former minister K T Rama Rao, repeatedly disrupting proceedings without facing suspension.
Rama Rao's BRS adopted an assertive stance against the ruling party, launching verbal attacks and delving into perceived injustices suffered by the region in the undivided Andhra Pradesh. The opposition also took aim at the "IndirammaRajyam" initiative and accused the Congress of disrespecting P V Narasimha Rao after his death. While the ruling party primarily lodged protests against these remarks, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy expressed a preference for constructive criticism over suspension for the opposition.
Despite the contentious exchanges, Reddy emphasized the government's commitment to the six guarantees outlined in the Governor's speech, which he argued reflected the party's manifesto. He encouraged healthy criticism and suggestions, asserting that the Congress would remain in power for the next decade. Reddy urged the opposition to focus on the present rather than delving into historical grievances before 2014.
