Congress Leader Jaipal Reddy Passes Away

Former Union minister and senior Congress leader S Jaipal Reddy passed away in the early hours of Sunday at a private hospital in Hyderabad. He was 77. Jaipal was diagnosed with pneumonia recently and undergoing treatment at the Asian Institute of Gastroenterology at Gachibowi.

Uttam Kumar Reddy, who manages the Congress party in Telangana, took to Twitter and wrote, “Deeply saddened & pained by the sudden demise of one of Telangana’s greatest sons – Shri Jaipal Reddy garu. He was a 4 term MLA, 5 term Lok Sabha MP, 2 term Rajya Sabha MP & a former Union minister. It is a huge personal loss for me & for the @INCIndia family. We will miss him.”

KCR son KTR also tweeted, “My condolences to the family and friends of senior leader and former union minister Shri Jaipal Reddy Garu who passed away earlier today. RIP Sir (sic).”

Jaipal Reddy is a 5-time Lok Sabha MP and got elected to Rajyasabha twice and served as MLA four times. He was also I&B Minister in IK Gujral Govt, Urban Development, Petroleum, Science and Technology Minister when Manmohan Singh is the PM. Jaipal Reddy was born in Madgul, Mahbubnagar District and rose as a politician after playing an active role in student politics in the Osmania University. In 1969, Jaipal got elected as Kalwakurthy MLA and then he joined Janata Dal during 1975 emergency and later became a Congress Member. Jaipal’s funeral is expected to take place in Hyderabad on Monday.
