Congress Leader Resigns Over Alliance with AAP
Arvinder Singh Lovely, the chief of the Delhi Congress unit, resigned due to the party's alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for the Lok Sabha elections. Lovely highlighted that several AAP ministers have been arrested on corruption charges, yet the Congress proceeded with the alliance despite internal opposition.
In his resignation letter to Congress Chief Mallikarjun Kharge, Lovely cited his inability to protect the interests of Delhi Congress workers as the reason for his departure. He noted that the alliance was unpopular among party members, given AAP's origins in campaigning against the Congress on corruption grounds.
Lovely criticized the Congress leadership for appointing candidates unfamiliar to the Delhi Congress, referring to Udit Raj's ticket in Northwest Delhi and Kanhaiya Kumar in Northeast Delhi. He mentioned that the party high command ignored the views and concerns of local leaders, causing internal rifts.
Lovely also alleged that the AICC General Secretary (Delhi In-charge) vetoed several of his decisions and prevented him from making key appointments within the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee. His resignation reflects a broader dissatisfaction among Delhi Congress leaders, some of whom are considering joining the BJP or forming a new party if their issues aren't resolved.
