Congress Stages Comeback, Wins Telangana Assembly Election
In a dramatic turn of events, the Congress party has emerged victorious in the Telangana Assembly election, ending the nearly decade-long rule of the Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS). Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao of the BRS resigned from his post as Congress secured 64 of the 118 seats it contested, effectively forming the government.
The BRS, which had been in power since the creation of Telangana in 2014, secured 39 seats, while the BJP managed to win 8 seats. The Telangana Congress MLAs will convene to select their Legislature Party leader, and the party delegation has already met with Governor TamilisaiSoundararajan to stake their claim to form the government.
The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for either December 4 or 9, with high-profile attendees expected, including chief ministers, former chief ministers, and senior leaders from Delhi. The event will take place at the LB Stadium, and Telangana police have been asked to make necessary security arrangements.
This election marks a significant political shift in the state, with the Congress party staging a remarkable comeback after securing only 19 seats in the 2018 election, where the BRS won with a commanding 88 seats.
