Cybercrime Police Warn Public Against Unknown Callers
The Hyderabad Cybercrime Police have issued an alert urging the public to exercise caution when receiving calls from unfamiliar numbers. The advisory includes a specific list of suspicious international phone numbers, such as +94777 455913, +37127913091, +56322553736, +37052529259, and +255901130460.
Key Warnings:
Origin of Calls:
Many calls originate from countries like Latvia (+371), Belarus (+375), Serbia (+381), Lithuania (+370), Tanzania (+255), and Lova (+563).
The scam typically involves the caller disconnecting after the recipient answers, luring them into calling back.
Risks of Callbacks:
Returning these calls can result in severe data breaches, including unauthorized access to contact lists and sensitive details like bank or credit card information.
This can happen within seconds of reconnecting.
Dangerous Commands:
Avoid pressing any prompted numbers such as “90” or “09” during these calls. Doing so may grant scammers control over the victim's SIM card, enabling them to make calls at the victim's expense or engage in illicit activities under the victim's identity.
The Cybercrime Police emphasized the importance of vigilance and advised against interacting with such calls in any way. If you encounter any suspicious calls, report them immediately to local authorities or a cybercrime helpline.
Staying alert and informed can prevent falling victim to these sophisticated scams.
