Deeksha Diwas Celebrated Across Telangana: BRS Remembers KCR’s Historic 2009 Fast

The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) marked Deeksha Diwas across Telangana on Saturday, commemorating the 16th anniversary of K. Chandrashekhar Rao’s historic fast-unto-death in 2009 that catalysed the formation of a separate Telangana State. Party leaders organised rallies, paid homage at martyrs’ memorials, and performed palabhishekam to portraits of Telangana Thalli and KCR in districts across the state.

Large crowds participated in events at district party offices, where leaders recalled how KCR’s fast forced the then Congress-led UPA government to announce the process for Telangana’s creation on December 9, 2009, eventually leading to state formation on June 2, 2014.

At Telangana University in Nizamabad, tensions arose after the university administration allegedly withdrew permission for the programme and removed tents and microphones. Senior BRS leader D. Rajaram Yadav staged a protest, accusing the Congress government of political interference and reminding attendees that KCR began his fast while under police detention in Khammam jail, sparking an uprising supported by lakhs across the state.

Events were held in Kamareddy, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Bhongir, Warangal, Nizamabad, Narayanpet, and Kothagudem, with former ministers and MLAs paying tribute to martyrs. Leaders also criticised the current Congress government, arguing that those who had no connection with the Telangana movement now occupy power. Speakers recalled sacrifices of students and activists and declared that without KCR, Telangana would not exist.

BRS MP Vaddiraju Ravichandra stated confidently that the party will return to power, claiming that KCR remains the true architect and protector of Telangana’s identity.
