Dubai: Asha Bhosle’s Second Home and Culinary Legacy in the Gulf
Legendary singer Asha Bhosle was not only celebrated for her musical brilliance but also for her successful entrepreneurial ventures, particularly her restaurant chain that gained prominence across the Gulf region. Dubai, in particular, held a special place in her life, often regarded as her second home.
Bhosle launched her first international restaurant in Dubai in 2002, marking the beginning of a flourishing culinary journey. Over the years, the brand expanded to several countries in the Gulf, including Kuwait, Qatar, and Bahrain, becoming synonymous with authentic Indian fine dining. Her passion for food and attention to detail played a crucial role in shaping the restaurant’s identity and success.
Following her passing, the Dubai branch of Asha’s restaurant remained closed for a day as a mark of respect. In a statement, the restaurant described her as more than just a founder, calling her the heart and soul behind the brand. While the Dubai outlet observed mourning, other branches across the region continued operations, honoring her legacy in their own way.
A frequent visitor to Dubai, Bhosle spent considerable time there outside India. Her last major performance was in December 2024, when she captivated audiences at the age of 91 with her rendition of “Tauba Tauba,” proving her enduring charm and energy.
Interestingly, two decades ago, she had even threatened to relocate permanently to Dubai if her Mumbai residence was affected by infrastructure development. This reflected her deep emotional connection with the city, which became a significant chapter in her life beyond music.
