Emergency Landing of Vistara Flight in Lucknow
A Vistara flight, on Monday, had to make an emergency landing in Lucknow due to bad weather in Delhi. The flight was traveling from Mumbai to Delhi with 153 passengers on board. When the flight landed at Lucknow airport, the aircraft had barely 300 kg of fuel left.
As the weather conditions were very poor with zero visibility in Delhi, the flight was redirected to Lucknow. But when it reached over Lucknow, the weather was bad there also. The flight crew was considering Kanpur and Prayagraj for landing when Lucknow ATC informed them that weather in Lucknow has improved significantly and landing can be made there.
The statement published by Vistara Airlines said, “The flight could have managed only 10 more minutes in the air before running out of fuel. With the fuel situation being extremely critical, the pilots declared a "Fuel Mayday", indicating the seriousness of their situation to the Air Traffic Control”. It further added that the safety of passengers and crew was kept at the highest priority.
It has been reported that due to this incident, a Vistara pilot has been grounded.
