No one wants to miss a huge sum of money and a car if it comes for free! But will it really come for free? Yes, but it needs a lot of talent and skills to take them home. In March last year, a group of hackers won a Tesla Model 3 and $35,000 for hacking into its systems. Amat Cama and Richard Zhu of the team called 'Fluoroacetate' exposed vulnerability in the vehicle system in the hacking competition.

And now, Tesla has once again challenged hackers to find bugs in its connected cars to win a Model 3 car and $1 million. The annual hacker's competition "Pwn20wn" is going to be held in Vancouver in March this year. "Tesla vehicles are equipped with multiple layers of security, and this time around, there are three different tiers of awards within the Automotive category that corresponds to some different layers of security within a Tesla car, with additional prize options available in certain instances," the Zero Day Initiative’s press release reads.

"Tier 1 earns the top prizes and represents a complete vehicle compromise. Correspondingly, this also has the highest award amounts. To win this level, a contestant will need to pivot through multiple systems in the car, meaning they will need a complex exploit chain to get arbitrary code execution on three different subsystems in the vehicle," it further says.

If the Tier 1 portion of the challenge is successfully completed, a Model 3 and $500,000 will be awarded. The payout would be increased up to $950,000 if contestants can also figure out a few peripheral hacking challenges involving the Model 3. So, one can now make the highest payout in competition history, if they take part and win the challenge.
