Global Leaders Extend Warm Diwali Greetings, Celebrate Festival of Lights with Messages of Hope and Unity
Diwali, the festival of lights, was celebrated with grandeur across India and the world on Monday, as millions of diyas illuminated homes, streets, and hearts. From Washington to London, and Dubai to Islamabad, global leaders extended their warm wishes, emphasizing Diwali’s timeless message of light triumphing over darkness and good over evil.
US President Donald Trump, in a statement from the White House, wished every American celebrating the festival, calling Diwali “a reminder of light’s victory over darkness” and a moment to cherish family, hope, and renewal.
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer shared that he lit a diya in Mumbai earlier this month, symbolizing devotion and unity. “Let’s keep building a Britain where everyone can look ahead with hope,” he said. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney too posted greetings on X, wishing everyone a “joyful Festival of Lights.”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu extended wishes to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the people of India, highlighting the strong friendship between India and Israel. Pakistan’s PM Shehbaz Sharif greeted the Hindu community, urging harmony and compassion.
UAE’s Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum wished peace and prosperity to all celebrating Diwali, while Singapore PM Lawrence Wong shared a heartfelt video message celebrating “light over darkness, hope over fear.”
Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake also joined in, expressing hope that the festival’s light would “illuminate our collective path.”
Prominent people of Indian origin, including FBI Director Kash Patel and billionaire Vivek Ramaswamy, shared festive greetings, while New York mayoral frontrunner Zohran Mamdani posted, “New York shines brighter tonight because of the people who bring their light and traditions home.”
