Governor Tim Walz of Minnesota has named August 15 as "India Day."
India's 77th Independence Day is on August 15, 2023, so Minnesota Governor Tim Walz made that day "India Day" in the state.In the declaration, he said that India was the biggest democracy in the world, that it was home to almost a fifth of the world's population, and that it had a rich culture history and a lot of different kinds of people.
"The contributions and history of Indian-Americans have been and are still very important to making our country and state better," he said.The Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965 made it legal for Indian people to move to Minnesota. There are now about 55,000 Indian Americans living in Minnesota.
Walz said that Indian people in Minnesota work as teachers, business owners, health care workers, tech creators, and artists all over the state. On the grounds of the Minnesota State Capitol, the India Association of Minnesota held IndiaFest to celebrate the culture, history, and customs of India through events like raising the Indian flag and having a parade.
As part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's "Har Ghar Tiranga" campaign, Indians all over the US celebrated Independence Day with parades and protests, and they also put up the national flag in front of their homes.Randheer Jaiswal, the Indian Consul General in New York, raised the tricolor in Times Square on Tuesday morning. He was joined by people from India.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken sent his "best wishes" to the people of India on their special day and said, "We stand with you in our shared commitment to tackle the most pressing global challenges to ensure the peace and prosperity of our people."
