HYDRAA Clears Illegal Structures, Reclaims Rs 200 Cr Land in Hyderabad

In a major anti-encroachment drive, HYDRAA authorities in Hyderabad reclaimed land worth over ₹200 crore near Peddamma Temple in Jubilee Hills on May 23, removing illegal constructions that had taken over nearly two acres of public space.
The operation targeted encroachments along Jubilee Hills Road No. 41, specifically structures built on park land and over a stormwater drain (nala). The illegal buildings, spread over 500 square yards, were demolished following repeated complaints from local residents.
Authorities revealed that a tenant had not only occupied land meant for public use but also constructed hotels and hostels, earning as much as ₹10 lakh monthly. This was done without the landowner's consent, sparking legal proceedings. A court eventually ruled that the tenant had no legal right over the land, paving the way for HYDRAA to proceed with demolitions.
Heavy police security was deployed during the operation to prevent unrest. Mild tension prevailed, but the exercise was completed smoothly. The reclaimed area, previously obscured by commercial activity, will now be restored as parkland, ensuring it benefits the community.
HYDRAA officials emphasized the importance of protecting public spaces and warned that further crackdowns would follow in other encroached zones. The Jubilee Hills case has become a symbol of how public land misuse can thrive in prime urban areas, often under the radar.
This reclamation is part of a broader effort to restore civic infrastructure and prevent further illegal urban development. It also reflects increasing civic awareness and governmental resolve to protect Hyderabad’s rapidly shrinking green and public spaces.
