Heirs Petition to Stop Release of Movie 'Sye Raa'

Sye Raa, a biopic of Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy, starring Megastar Chiranjeevi, kept on hold. The Telangana High Court asked the Central Board of Film Certification, whether any foundation in the Cinematography Act permits the legal heirs or family members of the protagonist about whom the movie was picturized to give a nod to making the biopic.
A Rajashekher Reddy of Telangana high court on Wednesday has taken up the case and was dealing with the petition of Doravari Dastagiri Reddy and others, who asked not to issue a censor certificate to the biopic.
The court informed Mr. Sanjeev Kalvala, the Counsel for the Censor Board, to inform the provisions of the Cinematography Act, which the petitioners asked as their grounds that their approval must be required before releasing the movie. The Judge also asked the petitioners to delete the name of superstar Amitabh Bacchan from the list of respondents in their plea filed against the release of Biopic.
The case has been adjourned to Thursday. As per the rule of Cinematography Act, 1952, the petitioners said that it was illegal to make a biopic without the consent of legal heirs. They also need the royalty from the movie makers as the story belonged to a member of their family.
