Hema Committee: Mohanlal and AMMA Executives Resign En Masse
Mohanlal, the President of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA), along with several other members of the executive committee, resigned on Tuesday following sexual abuse allegations against some committee members. The mass resignation includes prominent figures such as Jagadish, Jayan Cherthala, Baburaj, Kalabhavan Shajon, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Joy Mathew, Suresh Krishna, Tini Tom, Ananya, Vinu Mohan, Tovino Thomas, Sarayu, Ansiba, and Jomol.
The resignations occurred ahead of a scheduled meeting intended to address these allegations and to appoint a replacement for actor Siddique, who had previously stepped down as joint secretary. However, the situation escalated when Baburaj, the newly appointed joint secretary, also became the subject of similar accusations, deepening the crisis within AMMA. The association's vice-presidents, Jagadish and Jayan Cherthala, further complicated matters by holding opposing views on the controversial Hema Committee report.
AMMA has announced plans to establish a new leadership committee within the next two months to address these ongoing issues and rebuild its organizational structure.
