High Court Stay Exposes Congress’ 42% BC Quota “Drama”, Says KTR

BRS working president KT Rama Rao (KTR) launched a strong attack on the Congress government in Telangana after the High Court stayed the upcoming local body elections over the 42% reservation for Backward Classes (BCs). He said the stay order had completely exposed the Congress’ “fraudulent political drama” and proved that its decisions were legally weak and unsustainable.
KTR accused the Congress of deceiving BC communities by rushing key decisions such as the caste survey and Government Order (GO) Ms No. 9 without proper legal procedures or political consensus. He alleged that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy abandoned the party’s Kamareddy Declaration and made false promises to BCs only for electoral gains. According to him, the BRS had already warned that the GO would not survive judicial scrutiny, and the court’s decision has now validated that warning.
He further stated that the Congress used the reservation issue as a political diversion to hide its governance failures. Instead of building consensus or leading an all-party delegation to Delhi to pass the reservation bill through constitutional channels, the government acted unilaterally, resulting in a legal setback.
KTR also pointed out the contradiction in Revanth Reddy’s statements—first claiming that elections would only be held after implementing 42% BC quota, then saying it would be done after Rahul Gandhi becomes Prime Minister. He criticised Congress for offering “party-based political reservations” instead of providing legal protection to BC rights.
Additionally, KTR blamed the BJP-led Central government for betraying BCs by keeping related bills pending in Parliament. He warned that public anger was growing across Telangana due to unfulfilled promises and stalled welfare schemes. Urging voters to hold the Congress accountable, he vowed that the BRS would continue to mobilise public opinion until the BC reservation issue is resolved in a transparent and lawful manner.
